Gia Marie Carangi, the early years
Her beauty with or without makeup caught people's eyes...She was born in Philidelphia in 1960, the only girl...She grew up with two older brothers and had a best friend named Karen...When she was 11 her parents went through a divorce, which didn't make things comfortable...She was shipped from her father's house to her mother's house all through her teenage years...But because her mother was not at her usual home, does not mean that she did not see her everyday regardless..

Gia, The Catwalk
Around age 17, she was discovered by a friend of her mother. From then on he photographed her and sent them in to Wilhemina...While her mother was waiting in a diner near the agency, Wilhemina Cooper was so shocked by Gia's flawless features..She was so intriged by it that the contract was nearly forgotten...It was not until 1978 is when Gia started to get noticed by Vogue, doing layouts and ads...Her first big job was for Vesace, although from another source it was Calvin Klein...In April of 1979 she graced the covers of Cosmo, American and Italian only to grace it again in July of that year..
Also in April of 1979 she graced the cover of British Vogue....Phew..hehe...
Time went on and she modelled for Christan Dior and Stanley Blake...It was not until 1980 when Gia finally graced the cover of American Vogue in August...It was a special issue because she modelled Perry Ellis's fall collection..also her only runway show was for him...
But after that cover was on the newstands, she flew from New York City...

Gia: Life and Death
Between the years or 1979 and 1981, Gia began experimenting with "herion"...from what started off as recreational became a deadly habit...She would blow almost all her earnings just for a high...She began using them really heavy during the death of her dear friend, Wilhimina Cooper...Before Gia disappeared, she would walk off photo shoots and sometimes never show up.....So in the fall of 1980, Gia went back to Philidelphia to become clean...With lots and lots of effort, she somewhat made progress...But she longed for her old fashion days and went back to NYC in 1981...There she tried to make a comeback, which almost was a good one..She signed a contract to work for Elite and a 20/20 interview was in the works...Although the interview started nothing but rumors about her saying she was high....After appearing in Vesace Ads and on the cover of Cosmopolitan April 1982, she was back to her old habits...After finding drugs on her in Africa, Elite let her go...Eventually during the years of 1983-1985, Gia kicked her herion habit, only to find out that she was dying of AIDS...Her mother and friends never left her side...She died in the early morning hours in late November 1986....
